Writing for the Web

When you visit a website, what gets your attention?

You want the website to relate to you and the problems you need an answer to. You’d want to hear that there is help and that there is a means to stop the insanity. These are the things going on inside the head of your target audience. You need to identify the emotions, you need to include in your content when you write for your website in order to make them take notice and want what you have to offer.

So when you create content for your Web site, you need to focus on these things because while a list of the services you provide is fine and lets them know what you have to offer… it’s just a list of facts that have been put in a nice way. In order to make them take action you need to reach them on their level.  Most buying decisions are emotional so your website content should be, too.

You’ve got some idea into the needs of your customer and you have an idea of the problems these people are facing… how do you actually create content that shows this?

  • First you need to make a list of what you have to offer.  Don’t overdo it. Simply write down what you want to tell them.
  • Second, what do you want your customers to know about you? Do you have special products or services? Do you provide them in a unique way? Are you better than the competition? Why? Do you have really low prices? Do you solve a particular problem?
  • Third, how can your products or services help bring your ideal customer the solution to their problem and give them the answer they are looking for? You’ll have to dig deep into the psyche of your customer and put it all together. Remember their situation… remember how they feel… think about the problems they face.
